California sunsets are some of the most beautiful I have ever experienced. Maybe it has something to do with the sun disappearing beneath the ocean, or the unbelievably vivid colors, or the sky lighting up behind the distant foothills. Whatever the case, they are each unique and beautiful.

One particular sunset in the park last week sparked the idea of hiking to the top of Mount Woodson to experience a sunset from such a high vantage point. On a clear day, you can see the ocean. With a summit of just under 3,000 feet, it is one of the higher points in the area — and quite the climb.

We have climbed Woodson before but never at sunset. So, on Tuesday night, we decided to tackle it once more.

The paved path is easy to follow, and we were not too concerned about our return trip being in the dark.

But the climb up is a beast.

Huge boulders line the trail, just begging for someone to come with their climbing gear.

I was a little worried that we wouldn’t make it to the top in time for sunset. But I needn’t have worried. We made it in near-perfect timing.

Unfortunately, we picked a day where the marine layer was quite thick over the ocean. Next time, we will check this in advance.

Still, it was a beautiful view.

Our trek down was pretty brutal on the knees, but we made it back to the car safe and sound.

We are looking forward to our next hike — hoping to find a new one to try today.

We’ve been trying to get on a healthier food kick and I have to say that it feels pretty great.

Andy, who is allergic to peanuts, has never experienced peanut butter on celery (or really the sensation of peanut butter sticking to the roof of his mouth in any fashion). We bought some almond butter for him to try, and it was pretty amusing to watch his reaction while eating it. Something most of us have experienced since childhood was a foreign sensation for him and entertaining for me.

I feel a little silly admitting this last part but I am excited so I’ll share anyway. Our motorhome is a 1997. That means that it doesn’t have a CD player or AUX port, etc. So, when we want to listen to our choice in music, I have been hooking my phone up to a bluetooth speaker that we found in the park. And it has been pretty great.

However, there are certain songs that you just want to feel — like with your whole body. And that tiny speaker just doesn’t cut it. I have said many times that one thing I miss about our house was our stereo system. I miss feeling the music.

My genius husband hooked up an old-school solution that I didn’t even realize we had the option of doing.

He used one of those tape player conversion things that I used to use when I was younger. Now, we can play whatever music we want over the main speakers in our RV, and I am so thrilled! I cannot believe we didn’t think of it sooner, but I am happy we have it figured out now.

I’m having fun rocking out to loud music. And Andy is having to warn me to keep it down a bit.
